EMAIL - 11/03 Ok I talked with the professor and just read the comments on our rubric. I am creating the maps for the groups and redoing the rubric. Sorry that our partnership didn't work out well but I will send you the new material to look at tonight.
10/28 Good Morning, I filled out the top of the rubric and submitted it through turnitin, and published the WebQuest. I think we should be good. Ok sounds good. The webpages are submitted now as well.
10/27 I made the corrections, and reposted worksheet 3. I envision the murals as having scenes from three different periods of Mayan history. If you were using N. American Indians as an example, the first panel could show people migrating across the land bridge settling along the way (the early period), the second could show plains Indians in the middle of a buffalo hunt (the height), the third slide could show a scene along the Trail of Tears (the decline). It would probably be best if we show examples, to show something not related to the Maya. They would all try to copy the example. Ok I am with you now I have updated the power point again hopefully for the last time so you may want to take a look and see if it needs anymore details. Would you expect them to create a picture like on hite paper or are you wanting them to make a mural on like cardboard? I am not very creative when it comes to drawing free hand, what about an example using free sources that also show a progression like what you are talking about? What else do you think we need before tomorrow?
10/27 - I changed the password for for the zunal site this morning to see if maybe that was the problem. The username is: kimbo12 the password is: password I'll put the PowerPoint on the process page, and the evaluation page. Ok I can get in now. I corrected the power point so it matches the handout that they get on day three. I also had a few suggestions on handout three I willattach it here to see what you think about making the changes. What are you invisioning for a mural? Do you want them to draw out the picture? Or are you invisioning any artistic expression that meets the requirements? I also think that the timeline may be off for the assignment on day two they are researching but also are required to think out a cartoon, what do you think?
10/27 I am beginning work on our final product of the project. Ok I started a power point will you look over it and see what it needs. I'm trying to go off of memory because I can't access the Webquest to look at the assignment page.
10/26 Ok I guess I misunderstood the directions when I could get onto Webquest. I thought that the resources you listed were only for examples, to get the students started I didn't understand they were the only pages that they were going to use. I double checked the url and the page still will not let me in even though I am signed in. If the research is done for the students is there enough to write a paper? Also the murals are you wanting to have the students create different stages of their theory or are you thinking more about different pictures about the mayans? I have all weekend free woth no plans so I have no problem getting this done tomorrow but I want to make sure the examples patch what you would expect of the students.
10/26 - The screen shot you sent is from the wikipage (which you were logged onto and able to edit). The WebQuest is the address that you were at that was giving you the "not published no access message". That is the site with the login button at the top of the page. (http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=168060) I think your computer may be acting up, I just tried to go to Cacoo, and had no problem. Any examples you make would be great to add. I don't know that a research lesson on reliable sources is needed for this assignment since all of the sources for this project are provided for them. What would they be doing? Can it be written up between now and Sunday?
10/26 In order to edit you have to log in. There's a little login tab up in the top right corner. It would be great to include an example of the report/mural. Options for the final can be include a PowerPoint, Prezi, or Flipcam present. I'm about to get on and finish the process/eval pages. Feel free to add any info you see that is missing. I'm starting to look at the rubric, and Dr. M's example to see what is missing, and filling in the blanks. Kim Tonight I will create an introduction to research lesson something to help the students determine if a source is reliable for their research. I am going to try and attach a copy of what I am getting if you notice in the top right hand corner I am signed in just like before but now it won't show me anything. When I suggested an example from what I understand it can be anything the PP, Prezi, and the flipcam are sources that we are to use to explain the project but the actual assignment can be anything, I think. I was thinking of doing a very simple cartoon as an example of was the students could present their findings without having to talk or to just do a power point. I am willing to make that let me know what you think. I'm not sure if my computer is acting up but now I can't edit the storyboard at Cacoo either, maybe we are both trying to access it at once?
10/25 I am so sorry and you are right I will not be taking anymore classes during the school year. I had two late nights at school this week and now my daughter fractured her wrist. I looked over the project outline and it looked good. Should we create a finished project to model for the stdents? Sorry about the rubric it looked like it was loaded but I guess not. I am trying to get into the page and now it is saying that the page is not published so I can not access it. I can create theexample of the report and the mural. What do you think about instead of the report also giving them the chance to use another media to present like a powerpoint, comic, play, or to read/record their report.
10/24 I put a rubric up today, and finished up the first couple of pages. I think the following pages are done or very close to being complete: welcome, Intro, and task process (all except the last day). Info still needs to be added to the eval, conclusion, and teacher pages. I hope everything is o.k. with you.
10/23 Hey Veronica, I worked some on the WebQuest today. Check it out and tell me what you think. We still need to do that rubric ( i couldn't get the one you posted to open). I didn't finish day 3 so we could brainstorm ideas for the final product options. There is still some work needed on the teacher page, conclusion page, evaluation page and a little on the process page. I started a Cacoo, and sent you an email to the fwisd address to join. Any ideas you have for the final product add here and we can show brainstorming collaboration. Feel free to call or text if you're working on this and want to talk about something. Talk with you soon. kim
10/22 hope you are feeling better, and getting back to normal. I don't know how you can teach and do grad school at the same time. I tried it at the beginning of this semester, but couldn't hang for too long. So now I have a lot of time to dedicate to school. I know what you mean about being bombarded with new technology. I thought I was above average in that area.....now I know otherwise. I think options in the way they "present" their theory is a good idea. I'll work to try and finish up the set up for the webquest, and over the next couple of days we can brainstorm ideas about what they can do. On the last project we used cacoo as our storyboard. I think it would be a good way to document what we're doing. I can set that up tomorrow morning if you want to use it. It's takes about 5 mins to set up (easy). I tried to open your rubric, but it said "the address wasn't understood". I've typed up some handouts that students would use as they work through the project. I'll put those up tomorrow morning too. My number is 254-595-1349 I like texting/emailing to communicate. If you get a chance tomorrow sometime, look over what I've put up. Maybe we can set up a time in the next couple of days to talk about it.
10/22 - Hello, I've been setting up the standards and TEKs on the teacher page of the webquest. I've also picked out some resources to add to the project. I'm going to work on it later tonight. I tried setting up the online binder, but it took too long. I think it would be better for us to do the pathfinder page as a wiki. I've been adding resources to it (see pathfinder page). I just sent you an email. Hope to hear from you soon. The address for the zunal page i set up is http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=168060 I am so sorry about this weekend I was so sick that all I did was sleep. I can't believe how much work you have already started. I am going to sign up for the Zunal page tonight and will also log into the Wimba link as well. The wiki page is fine with me I am feeling very lost with some of this technology...and I thought I was pretty knowledgeable before this class. Ok I signed u for the Zunal and used my school email which is Veronica.valdez@fwisd.org. I like your idea about the students researching and developing a therory about what happened to the Mayans. What so we want them to do for a final project? I was thinking that they could complete a report, powerpoint, or could also make something to demonstrate their theory like maybe animoto? What do you think? I created a rubric for the project, it is very general but look it over and see what you think, the page wouldn't let me upload an excel so I had to use the web page so please double check that it will open. I also wanted you to have my nmber t's 214-228-2941. I think we should also allow an alternative assignment for students that are not as comfortable reading their project. I know there are some websites that the students could make a cartoon to show their final project so that it is not just written, what do you think?
10/17 Hey Veronica, I attended the online office hours, and it was really helpful in explaining the project. You can listen to the meeting with Dr. M going over the Powerpoint by going to the wimba link from the tools tab on the class menu. I had some time this afternoon, and set up a zunal account for the project. They don't have co-editing by invite, so we both need the login. The login is Kimbo12, the password is visitor. I've never worked with any of these programs before, so I wanted to get them all set up from the beginning before our planning. Have you done a webquest before? In the meeting Dr. M suggested starting with the teacher page and the standards. If I have time tomorrow, i'm going to look at some of those for 6th grade Social Studies.
10/17 -Hello, I was looking around today for some of the pathfinder programs Dr. M is requiring. I set us up an account with "live-binders". I can invite you to be a collaborator, but you have to have an account first. It's a simple way for us to "collect" resources for the project - pretty handy. If you go to www.livebinders.com and set up an account, and then email me, we can collaborate on the page. Let me know what email you register with so I can invite you. I found a couple of good videos and sites we can include in the webquest. I'll try to add them to the livebinder tonight. http://www.pbs.org/programs/quest-lost-maya/ - This is a really good recent video covering several theories related to the decline of the Maya. I thought about having the kids, after educating themselves about the Maya during the first part of the project, present their theories as to why the Mayan cities were deserted (as the culminating group project). We can easily inlcude one of the cool google maps we've looked at this semester. What do you think?
Veronica=purple October 16: Ok this is great I know that you emailed me that you weren't sure if this page was working but this looks great. I am currently teaching so I do the majority of my work on the weekend but I do some during the week as well.
10/16 Hello, I saw you are a member. Can you edit?? Yes so at least that is one step down.
10/16 Great, we're set up! I saw that you signed up for the online meeting tomorrow night, I'm going to try and join as well. I've been looking at some sites about the Maya for a webquest for a 6th grade social studies class. The kids could explore and develop a theory as to why they "disappeared". Do you have any ideas in mind? I haven't had a chance to look at the example yet I was finishing up the reading tonight. I am open to a lesson on the Mayans. I haven't been able to attend a meeting yet because I couldn't find my microphone for the meeting...but finally found it so I do hope
